API - Application Programming Interface

Our API interface allows you to get programmatic access to the service. It is currently free of charge and allows a convenient 3D model conversion without the need for an access token. In order to conserve server resources during the trial period, we reserve the right to temporarily block individual IP addresses in case of excessive usage. If you are interested in removing this limitation, or converting larger files, please contact us at:

Upload 3D model up to 40MB. File can be converted up to 24h after upload.
Start conversion using "name" response parameter of upload request and desired output format.
Download the converted model using "name" response paramter of the convert request.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

How can I convert an STL model to an OBJ file?

1. Upload
Click the Upload button and select an STL file from your computer.
2. Specify output format
Select OBJ as your desired output format by clicking the corresponding item in the list.
3. Start conversion
Now you need to wait for our system to finish the automatic conversion.
4. Download
Once the Conversion completed text appears, the file can be downloaded by clicking the button or using the link.

How can I open an STL file?

A STereoLithographie file can be opened in various 3D modelling and viewing programs. However, if your software does not support this format, you can easily convert it to one of 18 alternative formats with Among the most popular are STL, PDF and OBJ.

How can I convert a 2D file into a 3D file?

Unfortunately, this is not possible without manual effort. After all, the computer can not guess how the 3rd dimension should look like. A 3D file, on the other hand, can easily be projected in the 2D space using rendering.

How long will my files be stored?

Both the original file you uploaded and the converted model will be preserved for 24h after creation. After this period, they will be permanently deleted from our system.

What can I do if a file format does not exist?

We are sorry about that. We try to provide the largest possible number of file formats. However, if yours is not included, feel free to contact us at We will see what can be done.

Why is the output file corrupted?

It may happen that the conversion does not work properly. This is often the case when a file format exists in multiple encodings. These are not always fully supported by our system.
Try exporting to another file format from your CAD software and then start the conversion again.

Why did my conversion fail?

This can be due to one of the following reasons:
1. The encoding of the file format is not supported.
2. You are trying to convert a Mesh based file to a CAD based file (e.g. .obj to .csv). This is not possible because CAD files are based on mathematical formulas, while Mesh files contain exact coordinates.

Why does the conversion sometimes take so long?

This happens mainly with large files which require longer computation times due to their complexity. If too many users attempt to convert files at the same time, this can also cause delays, as your file will be placed in the queue then.
